Finally, I've finished a painting. I'm really happy with this piece.
This piece started off really differently. This started off with the greenish portion on top (I can't photograph worth crap). I had no real direction with it. I just hadn't painted in a while and so I just when to town with something abstract. But as I was working on this portion, which didn't take too long surprisingly, I painted some really cool textures and color combination. I was truly amazed at the result. Then, I was stuck. I had a really awesome textured background. So for the next 2 months I stared at this painting trying to come up with something that wouldn't hide or destroy the coolness that I had painting. (I know I'm talking it up but the photo doesn't to it justice just yet...eventually, I'll get a better photo and you'll see what I mean). So after the staring contest with the painting I photographed it and took it into Photoshop and started to concept some more. After about another month I came up with the composition that you see before you. So I reclaimed another panel and set to paint the bottom portion of this image.
This is the first painting in a while that I'm happy with. I've been moving toward more textured work and trying to understand how to work with the texture and to use it in the composition. This painting is the starting point for this direction of my work.
For those that love the organic swirls from my earlier paintings, fear not, I've not abandoned them. I just need a small break from it.
I hope that you enjoy this painting as much as I do.
yay! My title wins! I am glad you were able to create something you are happy with, and I am also glad you didn't rush and mess up that wonderful texture on top. Love you!
I like the background, it's so deep, and has a sense of distance and open space. When I look on it, violet and pink tones start to seem. Very interesting illusion. The gold-orange tones of the drink texture is shining.
I feel there is something wrong around the point where the handle crosses the far edge of the saucer. Some part of that edge is too straight in comparison with near edge and cup edge. I hope it only seems wrong. You used ovals instead of ellipses to display round shapes in perspective, and it confuses my sense of geometry.
